Happy Easter!

A very happy Easter to everyone.

Keep in mind the fact that the Son of Man, the Christ who lived and was executed by the government of His day, was a great leader, and leader of the common people. It was his great message of Love and Brotherhood which brought him to his death. He knew the poor of the earth were oppressed by the rich and wealthy, and in scathing terms denounced the money changers and all those who defiled the Temple and brought suffering to starving humanity.

George Lansbury, 1926.

Happy Easter, Mr. Clark. Great quote by George Lansbury, by the way.

What a shame Mr. Lansbury thought Mr. Hitler was a man of peace. No surprise you think George was the best Labour leader ever.

garelI've seen you use this quote at both Christmas and Easter, and every time you use it, I write a comment about how everything is about politics, but end up not submitting it.

It's my understanding that the money changers and sellers of animals were chased out of the Temple by Jesus because they were exploiting a monopoly position, and exploiting the people's desire to worship.

On the other hand, there were wealthy people in the Gospels with whom Jesus had no condemnation, such as the people at whose houses Jesus would have dinner and a sermon, the people who financially supported the ministry of Jesus during his life, the owner of the house with the upper room where the last supper was eaten, etc.

The Gospels condemned the Pharisees for being lovers of money, and the rich man in the story of Lazarus was condemned for his lack of compassion.

I'm just trying to say that it's a bit...trickier, more complicated than the picture painted by that George Lansbury quote. To a person who wants to be rich, the Bible asks "Why do you want to be rich? How are you going to get rich? What are you going to do with your wealth once you get rich?"

PS: Watching C4 News on the 1st of April it said that sea slugs now have more rights than humans in the Chagos Archipelago and that a Lebanese man faces execution in Saudi Arabia for 'sorcery'.

Neither of these stories was an April Fool's joke. I think the venerable tradition of April 1st is under threat from the increasing absurdity of reality.
